Default Truth on carbon arrows and deer meat

I have spoken to many people and have mixed responses. I was told that the area of meat where the arrow passes through should not be eaten. The meat gets contaminated from a carbon arrow. You can get very sick if this meat if eaten. This meat should be cut away and discarded.

Is there any truth in this?

I dont think this is a problem, with today's Carbon arrow's.Most Carbon's today break clean, and leave no carbon shards,at least i have not seen any in quite a while.

I SERIOUSLY doubt there is anything to that. They are simply carbon, and resin. You pretty much need to snad them down to get any matterial off of them...much less let them slide along a chunck of meat.
That said, I usually cut off the wound channel anyway. Not because of the carbon, just cause this meat is kinda F^%$&ed up anyway.

I always cut away the bloodshot meat around the wound anyway, no matter what I shoot it with.

I've read the same thing before about cutting away the meat, but with one big differance. It's not the carbon passing through that poses a problem. It's when the carbon arrow breaks inside the animal/wound channel. That is were the problem lies. If you eat any of the slivers they will get in your stomach and do some damage because stomach acid cannot break the carbon arrow slivers down. So if you get a complete pass through I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you do not, just make sure you recover and account for all of the arrow.
