I have always been a rifle hunter but would like to incorporate bow hunting for next deer season.

What would be a good starter bow and what equipment would I need?

I am 6ft2" and weight just at 250. Any advise for starters would be greatly appreciated.

jred, my advice is to go to a good archery shop. Your first bow may be the most important. Get an ill-fitting bow, and you may become disinterested, fast. Decide how much you wish to spend and look at what's in your price range. There's no need to spend a big pile of money to get a decent setup. Expect to spend close to the price of the bow for the accessories you'll need. Get something with a minimum 7" of brace height. The axle to axle length will be a personal decision. Longer bows are generally a little easier to learn on. If you find a shop you're comfortable with, ask for recommendations as to accessories. Or better yet, take an experienced friend who can advise you. But be sure to buy what you like and feel comfortable with. Shoot some bows and you should find one that suits you. Pdq has given you some good advice. Unlike rifles where one size fit's most, bows are a much more personal thing. Proper fit is the most important aspect. I think a quality proshop is the only way to buy a first bow. All manufactures make some great entry to mid level bows that do not cost an arm and a leg. Once you get setup properly by the proshop, this board is a great place to find answeres to more specific questions and any kind of help you may need.
