Brass Crimp on Nocking points.

Brass Crimp on Nocking points.
I plan to switch to tied on nock points after the late elk season. I know that the tied on's do not have as much effect on the speed my bow shoots on. I also know that the Brass Crimp On's demand a high price in speed.
Does anyone on the board know what the average speed reduction per brass nock is and what the cost is for the tied on nocks?
Just thought of another question: Has anyone tried a 3 inch three vane rt helical arrows. I know some who shoot 4 vane 3"

I heard that it is around 5 fps loss with a brass nock. Don't have any data to back this up.
You're not on a speed quest are you???<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Not really . . . just curious.
I got an e-mail from Mathews today stating that the loss is 2 fps per brass nock crimp on. Since I use 2 it is a total loss of 4 fps. A tied on nock costs less than 1 fps. Probably not enough difference to warrant the change.
I haven't shot it through a chronograph since I installed my NAP 4000 but that should improve some as well.

I have my own chrono and did some testing last year on this very thing. Each brass nockset costs me 2pfs. Hope this answers the question. Many other things effected speed much more. Kisser button lost 4fps. Tube aligner for peep was about 5fps. String silencers ranged from 2fps (Simm's Leeches) to 8fps (Puffs). I have never used the tube aligner or kisser button so they don't matter to me. I just put them on to check out the difference.

I have the standard peep and presently two brass nock points. I too have never used the alignment tube. I tied a kisser knot on my stringf and it took less than 1 fps. I'm not sure a gain of 3.5 +/- fps is worth changing my nail driver to a tied on nock.

One thing that I have heard of concerning tied on nocks is that there is a way to tie them on so that you can adjust nock height by simply twisting the nock up or down the center serving. That might be a big bonus if you are fiddling around with fine tuning your bow. I also have two nock sets on my string: one is a T.R.U. Speed Nok that aligns my peep sight and the other is a standard brass nock for insurance again nock slip.

Here is a website showing how to tie these nock points. It includes diagrams; these are the ones that will twist up or down the string as needed.
