Ice bow fishing..

Anyone ever tried it? I was just reading a old book about bowfishing, and saw there were some guys who used to bowfish in ice shantys. Looks like it would be a blast, and warm in an ice tent too!

ive speared northerns...not quite bowfishing its alot harder. its fun as hell though

Yes I have, Northern pike in michigan The spear worked better not enough room to draw and move.

Is there a special season for spearing in mich? Do you do any baiting, or just set up in some likely areas.

Boy I think that would be tough. I spear but trying to draw and shoot almost straight down would be a real challenge. The only time I have heard of people using bows in the winter is late in the year when they open a few lakes to promiscuous (sp) fishing due to low oxygen levels. They cut big holes in the ice and the fish come up to the top to try and gulp air like minnows do.

WE BOWFISH FOR PIKE HERE IN ALASKA AND THERE ARE 3 OF US THAT HAVE TALKED ABOUT ICE BOWFISHING BUT HAVE NOT TRIED IT YET ....HOPEFULLY THIS YEAR.

AK.....how is the pike bowfishing in alaska? Are there other fish you can target?
