Default General lighting assistance and opinions

Want to finally rig my 14" Jon with lights for bowfishing. I have never fished at night but due to new law changes here in MN I finally can. I will be purchasing a genny probably around 3000 watts or so. I want to keep it simple so I will go with Halos and from what I researched the 300watt replacement bulbs are close to the 500's anyway so I was thinking to save wattage and purchase around 6 halos, would this be sufficient? Is this too much for a small vessel? I have a level platform on the bow. ( 3/4 inch plywood) What is the way to mount and wire these things to the genny so I don't fry myself?
I have researched this to no end but only find what people are running not the DIY for dummies version which I need when it comes to electricity. Any help is appreciated. Complete newb when it comes to generators especially in boats surrounded by water.
Generators for my budget preference would be this http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...1775_200381775 or this http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...9023_200419023 or a Wen 3000 watt for $350 at Menards

Thanks!
