RE: tryin to become a bow fisher
A good set up will cost ya a bit to get started but not really that much and if your gonna do it right as a beginer you might as well do it right. You say you have a bow, I'm hoping its not a nice expensive bow you use for hunting. If so find a cheap one for around $50 or less and use that. We are shooting the browning barracudas this year but you dont need anythign like that for startign out. Poundage you only need between 40 and 55 lbs. As far as a setup a good beginer set up is an AMS retriever reel and get a few fiberglass arrows with safety slides and some muzzy tips.As far as a rest and sight I dont shoot with one but some do. Personally I like the quickness and instinctive shooting with no extras. I cant my bow to the side slightly and aim by pointing the arrow. You do it enough and practice enough and it will come natuaral before ya know it, you wont even realize your aiming at the fish it will become a point and shoot shooting for ya. I also shoot fingers and use to shoot release but switched due to me haveing to run the trolling fan I put on my boat this year so I switched to fingers and put the rubber rollers on my string for my fingers and it was the best change to my setup I've ever done so consider shooting finger cuz its much quicker to get drawn and put an arrw in a fish and is easier to shoot at half draw or something which happens on occasion.
Good beginner stuff:
Cheap bow 40-55lbs
AMS retriever reel
fiberglass arrows
safety slides
Muzzy quick release tips
optional- finger rollers for you string, sight, rest (muzzy makes a good rest, the fish hook)
Aim low and impale some scales. WCL
