Default Semi-Live from KY

Once again the Illinois Bowfishers are invading Kentucky.

Arrived at Calvert City around 10pm Thursday. Checked in at the motel and then went down below KY Dam. Met up with Dan Richardson's crew and Walt Kloppel's team. The fishing was tough and we had some mechanical issues (bad gas in the genny?) but we did get a bighead, a buff and several gar.

Friday we went out to the Cumberland below Barkley dam for about an hour and a half. Managed to shootfive silvers and four nice gar.

Took off from the Cumberland and headed of to the Bowfishing Association of America's summer meeting. It was nice to get into the air conditioning. BAA business was discussed and voted on. Thanks to the officers for doing a fine job and a lot of work.

The meeting.

Suckersticker, we've got a pile of chores to do when we get back. []

Then it was off to the Barkley dam again for a fund raiser tournament for the National Archery in the Schools Program. Bruce Bauer and Greg Pyles did an excellent job of setting this tournament up. With most boats out scouting for the World's tournament the tournout was a bit light with six teams. That meant the six teams walked away with scads of prizes.

We didn't think we did too well when we were shooting the tourney so we were really suprised when we came in first place.

My first grassie!

I also managed to win smallest fish with a 14 ounce gar. Kendall managed to shoot a shad. We spent about an hour trying to shoot a shad. (they didn't count for smallest fish, but you needed five different species to weigh in and they counted for that)

I'll try to post more photos tomorrow. There are a lot of bowfishing rigs down here. Looks like the World's shoot is going to have a great turn-out.

We haven't actually hit the lakes yet. We figured there's no sense for us to scout because our boat is too slow to beat anybody to any good spots. So, we'll just plug along and hope for the best.

The grassie was 17lbs 4oz. We didn't measure how long it was but it sure was skinny. If it had been well fed that fish would have been 40 - 50lbs.

Shrky, We did have a whole lot of fun, even though there were some frustations. We had several firsts, first grass carp, Christine and I both got our first Shad and i got my first ever drum.
Plus we got to talk(B.S.) with a whole bunch of good folks.
Christine and I even got a plaques from the BAA. Gonna hafta add on to the trophy room now...
