Default New Illinois State Buffalo record

A new Illinois State BAA record for a Buffalo went down last night. The old record of 18 lb 3 oz was bested by 5 oz. The new record goes to Mr. Extreme at 18 lbs 8 oz. taken in Vermilion county.
Congrats to Mr. Extremeand the John Borgers crew

Just wondering. Maybe I'm missing something but is an 18 lb buffalo big cuz we shoot like 30-40 lb buffs all the time here. WCL

Yep, we just dont seem to grow them that big around here. I checked Iowa and their state record is 55#. Go figure. There may be some larger ones around we just dont seem to find them. The DNR Guys did shock some 30# ones in Clinton lake not too long ago.

Wow that is wierd. Our state record is 62lbs 1oz. Huh yeah I wonder why that is that Illinios fish are so small. An average buff around here is like 20-25lbs prolly... Say you guys ever run into any black buffalo. I've shottwo before and I've seen a few. My cousin shot one a few years ago that was huge (like 40 some or 50lbs) and he was gonna have it mounted and put on display in the school but the DNR found out he had it and took it. (Black buffalo are illegal to have because they are like endangered or something but you can't get introuble for shootiong one because the rules are that when shooting fish like that you can't identify them not to be black buffalo when you think they are normal buffalo). My cousin shot a WI record dog last year too but he didnt think about it bein a record so they left it on an island because they were in a 2fishbig carp tourny. It was 11lbs 9oz and thecurrent record is 11lbs 4oz. WCL

The biggest buff I've seen in IL was in the 20-25 pound range, but I didn't get a shot at him. I pulled in a 15 pounder last year.

I don't know that we have all that many of them to begin with.
...or maybe they are stunted from all the carp crowding them out.
There's a fix for that.

Also, please realize that we really just started keeping organized bowfishing records the last year or two, so the records will come and go pretty quickly for a while.

O ic. Well that explains alot then. Yeah I supose those records will go pretty quick then. I don't know how long WI has been keeping records but the oldest record is from 1999 so its been atleast that long...Well if your lookin for big buff, the next couple weeks are gonna be prime around the Misissippi river and backwaters areas. The riv is where the big boys are at. Welll good luck and stick some fish for us. We cant shoot till the 21st of april. Buffalo spawning time so the season is closed now. WCL
