My group that Icarp shoot with uses a couple of hand heald spotlights and we do pretty well but we sometimes spook the fish when they get hit by the light. I know that coyote hunters use red filters to keep from scaring game would this also work for carp? How well would it penetrate the water? would we have a hard time spotting fish that are hiding?
Any help is appreciated

I haven't tried the red lens myself, but Robow7 has tried it and says he didn't think it helped.
IMO it probably has more to do with the intensity of the spotlight than the color. It's hard to find spotlights with less than 4 jillion candle power anymore.
Good Luck.
Some people claim that the softer more yellowish light of anHPS light doesn't seem to spook the fish as much as the brighter, whiter, halogen but I don't know that as fact.
