Default Finally tried bowfishing.

And I am now officially addicted! Even though I only shot one 15 pound carp out of about 30 shots it was a blast. Do you guys have a high ratio of success per shot? I was shooting from the bank of the river but it was not the easiest thing to get a bead on. Alot of close calls and real close misses. I just wish I had a sight or something to help me hit more. But what a great way to pass summer while waiting to get in the woods for my whitetail.

Congrats on your first fish Tribal.

It really is addictive.

As far as shot percentage... some times you be smokin'... like 10 fish in a row, a miss and then another string of hits... other days it will be the total opposite.

On a good day I'll average about 60% hits. (with my new bow and a spiffy carbon fiber arrow) On a bad day, I'm lucky to be getting 20% of the fish I shoot at.

You'll get better as you get used to it. (shooting instinctive, refraction.. etc.)

next you'll need a boat... a generator.. a fan motor...

Thanks for the response Amanita,
I have a 14' jon boat I use for duck hunting. Is there plans or any ideas how to make a removable platform or anything to get up a little higher? If not I guess I will go to work designing something once I see what others use. I am a complete novice at this as of right now. Never even saw a bowfishing boat rig. lol

I'll try to get some photos up of the different platforms I see people use.

Ours is made of threaded iron pipe and 3/4" plywood. It's removable too. (tho' we've never taken it off)

I know many of you have heard me say this about bowfishing time and time again. Thanks Tribal for emphasizing it! And welcome to the bowfishing world. It is a small world but the others just have not discovered the joys of this sport yet. Good luck, and do not worry about the percentages of hits and misses. It will vary from day to day. Just enjoy slinging arrows!

Just slap a piece of plywood across the front two seats till you decide what you want.
