Default Round Balls

Anyone here use round balls in their inline rifle? If you do, what do you think of them?

You can shoot roundball out of some inline rifles. The accuracy might even surprise you. I have a Knight Wolverine II that will do a real good job with a .490 ball and patch. The trick is to not push them too hard. Keep your powder charges between 40-70 grains and many of them will shoot just fine. If you push them harder then that, they ball will skip the rifling and your accuracy will fall off.

I use round balls for off season plinking from my Disk rifle.
I tryed a 50 gr pellet and got BAD groups but 50 - 70 gr volume loads of 777 worked good .
I found anything over 70 gr loads I would get flyers, maybe because like Cayugand said .
Have fun

I shoot some round ball out of my 45 cal Encore, 50 gr of pyrodex seems a bit heavy although I keep them within 2" at 50 yards... got some 30 gr pellets I want to try now... just need to find the time...

They are cool for plinking... also cool for removing tiny groove burrs in your new rifle bore. Helps break-in the barrel quicker. Shooting 50 when the rifle's new is a smart idea... gets you familiar with the gun's feel... recoil... etc.

However, the reason you bought this high tech ML is not to shoot roundballs. It wasn't designed to do that with precision.

I shoot roundballs from mine ,
but it has a 1 in 48" rate of twist so it shoots them very accurately . The gun is 5 years old , most newer ones have a 1 in 28" rate of twist to accomodate sabots .

Over 90% of inlines made have twists in the 1-28" theatre.... overwhelmingly suitable for roundball plinking-only. Generally, inline buyers won't buy an Omega or Disc Extreme to cite an example - to shoot roundballs exclusively. Heck... very few shoot conicals nowadays. It's mostly-always about sabots with full-force powder charges.
