Of course it is, but it works better when the load consists of more powder. There are better bullets available when crafting low recoil/beginner loads. The 200g Gold Dot worked good when the powder charge was only 50 grain, as did the 185g Controlled Fracturing bullet, and the 250g Monoflex.
Surely, none of these would leave a lesser blood trail, than the PT did.

Real world results are always where the true test comes and after reading Chets hunt story, 30 yards after the shot tells me the bullet did everything. The biggest challenge was that horrible jungle grass.

Well, even if it DIDN'T open well, a .45 caliber hole through and through aint nothing to sneeze at which is pretty obvious from the results Chet's daughter got. As I stated previously, I've never had a failure to recover any animal I've hit over many years of using them. I like to experiment and try new bullets and such, but if I find myself on a hunt to where I want absolute confidence in my bullet, I wouldn't be afraid to use the old fallback PT Gold. Or my new kinda favorite Bloodline or Lehigh.
