Default 300g XTP Magnum -- 80g BH

The recent discussions about bullets suitable for hunting bear, got me fired up, to look at the 300 grain XTP Magnum.

The bullet penetrated the carpet, plywood, and all six jugs. It was found in the last jug.

I'd say not too many deer (or black bear for that matter) will survive a well placed shot from one of those bullets.

Yes. However, Sir Henry Halford would say about 1525 fps, or maybe not; maybe he would.............

The 300 grain XTP magnum is a fine bullet. Driven by 140 grains of Black MZ powder the bullet penetrates both shoulders of a 250-300 pound boar hog, leaving a 1.5 inch exit wound. Killed 10-12 big hogs with that bullet and never recovered one.

Recently did a deliberate Texas heart shot on a 250 pound boar. Bullet exited his lower jaw.

from the video that bullet did a real impressive job. I wonder how a 300 grain Deep Curl would do with the same load?

Seems like they expanded almost flawlessly.

The Deep Curl penetrated half as far, but retained more weight. Me thinks it would have ended up in the fourth jug if it wasn't expanded so largely (nicely). In that scenario, it would have penetrated 2/3 as far. It apparently hit the fourth jug real real hard, and bounced quite far.

See the 300 grain Deep Curl capture.

OK, I do remember that post now. The reason I was wondering is I have a few boxes of the 300 and 240 grain DC. That should make an excellent deer bullet as they shoot very good with 90 grains of Black Horn 209 out of my Optima. Thanks.
