Federal 350g BorLock--50g Blackhorn
This morning the Federal 350g Premium bullet was tested. The load was 50g of Blackhorn, W209 primer, and the 350g bullet which uses no sabot. The bullet is very easy to load. Range was 25 yard to test media consisting of carpet, plywood, water jugs, and a phone book stack.
At 25 yard, the bullet was clocked at 1045 fps; it penetrated through the carpet, plywood, 5 jugs, and into the sixth jug where it was found. It weighs 330.5g. The skirt thingy was found on the ground below the horse.

Great penetration but it looks like it needs more speed for reliable opening.
Ron, did you look closely at the carpet/plywood to see if that bullet entered straight? The way that bullet is deformed kinda looks like it may have entered at a slight cant. Could be the reason it didn't open up properly. Maybe 50 grains isn't enough to stabilize it out of your rifle. Not knowing what rifle you tested it out of, I'm assuming it was one of your 1:28 twisters and it's just possible that you may need to cook it off a little hotter for proper stabilization. Just a thought.

Here is a link to a previous test using the same bullet, but with a powder charge of 80g Blackhorn

The photo show two holes made by the bullet in the face of the plywood, and the back of the carpet. They look nice and round to me. Yes, the bullet was shot from 1:28 barrel.

That top hole is canted Ron. Look close at the 5 o'clock position and you will see what I mean. Bottom hole looked perfect though. I remember the 80gr test you did with absolute perfect results. Only problem was finding those damn bullets! I liked the results from the lead 350's but the copper 270's left me less than impressed if I remember correctly. I figure pushing those 350's with 100gr BH would put the hammer of Thor on these big ole corn fed deer around here! Now to find some!
