Default Green Mtn barrels

Anyone looking for Green Mtn. drop in barrels might want to check ebay. I saw a few on there today.

As I recall they were all percussion. One was a 1" 50 LRH that was cut to 21" dovetailed and recrowned with Williams Ft & rear sights. Then there were a couple .50 cal RB barrels 32" that were 15/16"

Ah ok. Neither of any use to me. I spent a week looking for a .54 RB barrel, and came up empty.

One would think that this would be a great opportunity for Green Mt. to ramp up production of the T/C drop in barrels now that T/C is fading away. I'm sure there are a lot of fellas out there that would like to replace an existing barrel or purchase a used T/C stock and lock to drop a barrel of their choosing in. Sad to think about IMO...

Well I have 2 Renes (1 flint .50 and one perc .58), 3 Hawkens (1 flint .50, 1 perc .45 and 1 perc .50) and a custom stock .54 all with GM barrels. I've been shooting GM barrels since about 1980 or so. Its really a shame that they discontinued their IBS line.

All of mine are percussion - .45 & .50 LRHs and a .54 slow twist on Renegade stocks, and a .50 LRH and .58 slow twist on Hawken stocks. For the last two years I've been thinking of sending the .58 back to GM to have the percussion plug replaced with a flint plug.

I have two GM barrels. One .54 flint round ball barrel, and one .50 percussion LRH. STILL kicking myself for not buying a .58 flint barrel when they were available.

I have two .50 caliber blued percussion 1-28 twist, one being a 21 inch carbine. I have two .50 caliber flintlock barrels, one being a carbine. I have a .54 caliber blued 1-70 twist percussion. I have a .58 caliber percussion. And a stainless .45 caliber fast twist and a .50 caliber stainless fast twist. I sold the .62 smoothbore.

I really like their barrels. I wish I had purchased all flintlock barrels but I like the percussion also. Its just lately I have gravitated to the flintlock for near all my shooting.

HMMMM.... Maybe that comes with age?? I personally enjoy my flintlocks more so than my percussion rifles these days, but I still use both for hunting. It depends on which season I'm hunting and the weather as to which I hunt with, but I'll usually take a flintlock out if given the opportunity.
