Default Smooth vs. Crush Rib Sabots in the .50 GM-LRH Renegade

Part of today's shoot was to compare Harvester 50/44 smooth vs. crush rib stabots with Speer 270 grain Deep Curl Soft Points.

I normally shoot five-shot groups, but time was short so I went with three-shot groups at 50, 75 and 100 yards. All loads were 85 grains of GOEX FFFg.

Although the sample is on the small size, it seems the crush rib sabots had a slight edge. Here are the targets.

50 Yards - Smooth Sabot

50 Yards - Crush Rib Sabot

75 Yards - Smooth Sabot

75 Yards - Crush Rib Sabot

100 Yards - Smooth Sabot

100 Yards - Crush Rib Sabot

I never specifically went and tested my Green Mountain LRH on the Renegade Stock for crushed VS smooth but found that the crushed rib sabots seemed to load easier and also produce better accuracy. And might I add.. that is some great shooting!!

I have experienced the same as well. While not a large difference, the upper hand normally goes with the Crush Rib. I've got to the point now that I only order the CR even for my larger bore guns.

Nice shooting too by the way.

Semi for some reason I've found the CR sabots also give me better accuracy and are easier to load. BTW that's some fine shooting.
I do have one question though. Where did you get a measuring instrument that measures 6/16"?

I was gonna say something but I just wrote it off as that he was on short range time and his measureing device was just giving him a short measurement due to time constraints!!!!!!! LMAO!!!! Great job all the same and groups to boot!!! My brother uses the CR as well with his TC and Hornady FTX's.

Same here... when I saw that I thought, HMMMM, 6/16" equates to 3/8" and that's one D@MN fine group you've got there Semisane! But my brain kept telling me...No, that does not look like a 3/8" group. But what the hey, it is some darn good shooting. I'm gonna try some sabot/bullet combos as well as the solid paper patched bullets in my .50 LRH barrel so it was great that our good man Semi posted his personal comparison experience.

Now BPS - I don't think Semi would make an error like that. The targets have those 1/2" grids not 1"

All joking aside.... Semi, was that one of the "Sinful Sisters' that you were shooting?
