I haven't heard of this one, looks like a different version of the fairly-new FTX bullet.

Geez, I can't keep up with all these new bullets they're bringing out.

Doesn't sound like it would expand well from a muzzleloader??

Looks like they took their GMX bullet and crossed with their flex-tip FTX bullet. Bullet looks to be all gilding metal, no lead. I really doubt that it would expand well at muzzy velocities- I have seen several reports with their GMXs shot at rifle velocities that don't seem to expand very much. Might be a good bullet for really big or dangerous game, though- like big bears, moose, etc.

I am not so sure that it would not work well with a ML, if it is designed for a 45-70 - I would think you would be able to shoot it at near the same velocity or greater with a modern inline and the more energetic powders...

Remington designed their 300 grain for a 45-70 with a velocity of 1800 fps..

Quote:
In an attempt to improve the low pressure .45-70 load, the factories have been loading a 300 grain JHP bullet (BC .171, SD .204) at around 1,810 fps. At that velocity, according to Remington figures, the ME is 2182 ft. lbs
I think we can get very close to that velocity with a ML...

If I can find some here locally I might give them a test shot. The low BC, kinda bothers me for a pointy bullet...

Constructed of Gilding metal [will be expensive] and 250 gr bullet designed to shoot out of a 45:70. Whats the velocity of a 250grain bullet in a 45:70?

My guess would be that it is capable of 2500 FPS, this would be difficult for most non-smokeless muzzle loaders to match.

How about this bullet: http://www.hornady.com/store/44-Cal-...or-444-Marlin/

Do you think it is too long to stabilize well?

These bullets shoot great out of my Endeavor with 110gr. of BH209 and a Harvester green sabot. Oh yea, Winchester 209 primer. One inch groups if I do my part. Haven't had a chance to use them on game but they look really good on paper.

Lee, i have not been able to find the ballistic information for the 250 yet. I was looking but I am not sure Harnady has released it...

Their information page is blank...

http://www.hornady.com/store/45-70-G...0-GR-MONOFLEX/

I was thinking more in the 21-2300 for a normal FPS from a 45-70 but have not reference for those numbers other than a 300 grain 45-70 is shot in the 1800 fps area...
