Default Bear Grease

I was planning on using bear grease for a bullet lube. The only problem was that it goes to a liquid as soon as I touch it. Kind of hard to get any on the bullet.

So I stuck it in the freezer for a bit but that didn't work too well either. I managed to lube some up with some Wonder Lube that way but the bear grease just melts away quickly.

Any ideas to thicken it up... or at least raise its viscosity so that it will stick to a bullet?

Thanks

HA

I used it for years as a patch lube, never used bullets much. I had some thicken once when I got it to hot so I would try mixing it with powdered graphite and boiling it.

Try melting a little wax and mix it with that. Bees wax is best but candle or paraffin canning wax will work. That should make it easier to handle.

I agree with Cayugad. I do the same thing with Bore Butter to stiffen it up for use as a bullet lube.

Well, I stopped at the health food store on my way home from work this evening. They were the only one around who had any beeswax. (got to do some internet shopping for some cheaper wax) .
So I picked up a 1/3 pound block added about the same of rendered bear fat and Voila! my very first bullet / patch lube.

Thanks for your help fella's!!!

that looks really good... although pure bear rendered fat makes a great patch lube just as is. That should stick to bullets or patches. Let us know how it shoots.

I still have about 3 lbs of fat (rendered once) that still solid in the freezer. Would I just warm it up til it's liquid and dip patches in it or do I need to get it down to an oil only?

Here it is in the tins,

When I used to shoot rendered bear fat you'd dip it on a finger and it would start to turn to liquid from just your body heat. I would rub that pure fat into the patch and then load it. It shot real well too. And they never had a burned patch with that stuff.
