Default Flintlock Crazy

Today was 40 degrees. Hard to believe in January where I live. Normally its very cold this time of year. But the sun was shining, the wind not too bad. And I had been reading a book about early pioneers and their flintlock rifles.. So I decided to shoot flintlocks today. Not just one flintlock mind you but several.

I started with the Great Plains Hunter in .50 caliber, went to the Lyman Trade rifle.. first in .50 caliber then got out the Lyman Trade Rifle in .54 caliber.

To show the target would be foolish because I really did not care that they were cutting the same holes. And then, I was shooting paint cans at 85 yards, even tried some off hand shooting (big mistake). Ended up going through two flints and well over half a pound of powder. But it was fun to be outside and just shoot.

If its nice tomorrow I might make it a Green Mountain Day, or maybe a White Day. I'd try a T/C Day but that might take a few days.. So enjoy the weather and get out there and shoot.

For some reason, even though it was nice weather here today, the power was out for several hours. Not a good day for running the woodshop, but it was a great day to shoot roundballs!!! Glad I wasn't alone out there.

Now you got me going. I think I'll dig out the 21" GM barrel out for my Deerstalker. Only problem is I'll have to shoot it backwards because it is....umm backwards right handed.

and I'll grab the normal Deerstalker and send them head to head on the weekend. Weather permitting of course.

Both are flintlocks. Both have their stock sights so it should be interesting. I think I'll start them nice and close.

HA

Sounds like you had a Blast today Dave. I planned on doing a little Yote Hunting but our Snow does'nt look like it's going to be around too long, hard to believe this weather, it was 4 degrees the other day and tomorrow 40 and Rain.
One good thing Im saving on the Wood for the Stove, it was the warmest December on record.

Sounds like fun Cayugad. A day with big clouds of white smoke just has to be a good day.

I'll tell you, I've decided to spare the neighbors and take weekends off! Closest neighbor is, actually out of sight, but nevertheless.
However, tomorrow is MONDAY and I'm thinking lunchtime is rangetime...

You guys should try hunting in this warm stuff. We finished up our deer season on Sat. and it was in the 60's!!! Spent the week in camp hunting in light clothing and it was very unusual. I did get to spend it with my buddies and had good fellowship though. Life can be very good!

As of now I am doing grand baby siting for a week and loving it. How do these kids have unlimited energy levels???

Warm weather during the season really stinks rafsob. When I left my stand last Sunday morning it was seventy-six degrees. Worked up a sweat walking back to camp. The prediction for next weekend is highs in the mid-50s and lows around 30 - HOORAY!

Our season ends January 29th. and I still don't have meat in the freezer.
