Default Omega Dream Season

This morning i removed the sights, and installed a scope on the Christmas rifle. The rifle with scope weighs near 7 1/4#. Then headed for the hills, and loaded 300g Deep Curl, 110g BH, crush rib sabot, and W209 primer. The temperature was about 40, elevation was 4700', and there was a strong swirly breeze.

Shots 1,2, and 3 made from near 50 yard, adjusting scope between each shot. Shots 4, 5, and 6 taken from 100 yard using the same scope adjustment. Scope was adjusted right and down, before a move to 200 yard.

For shot 7, 8, 9, the aim was the middle target. After shots 7, 8, and 9, the scope was adjusted down some more. The aim for shot 10, 11, 12 was the bottom target. Between shots 10, 11, and 12, an attempt was made to gauge the breeze, and fire in kinda lull. The time taken between shots was increased, and the barrel allowed to cool some. After shot, 11, there appeared soot between the cup and anvil of the primer. Seems it wouldn't hurt to enlarge the flame channel to 5/32". The blow back was zero until shot 11; the fit of the W209 primer is perfect perfect in this rifle.

After shot 12, the scope was adjusted down some, in preparation for the next trip to the range. Trigger on this rifle is virtually perfect.

I like the way they did the fluting on the barrel. It's unique.

Myself, i always reload after a shot, so to me the end of the ramrod coming out of the socket with recoil, is not an issue. I have read others posting about their ramrod falling out after a shot, but it has never happened to me; i never take one step with an empty rifle.

I like the way TC rifles hold onto the ramrod using the socket at the end. To me it is a better system than using a spring pushing up on the ramrod, which is then pushing up on the barrel.

Nice range report Ron. Good luck with your new rifle. Not familiar with that bullet though. I have heard of it here. As of now I am using the Hornady FBP's. I am getting great results with them and BH209.

Default Second Trip

This morning the rifle and i went to shoot some paper. The load was 111.4g BH, 300g Deep Curl, crush rib sabot, and W209 primer. Temperature was about 45, elevation was 4700 for the 100, and 200 yard shoot, and then was 4900' when shooting at 267 yard. Shot 1 through 8 were made at 200 yard, then the breeze intensified, so a move was made to 100 yard for shot 9, 10, and 11. The aim for the first 8 shots was the middle target. The aim for the green holes was the top target. It was important to me to check the cds dial further, so in spite of an increasing gusting breeze, a decision was made to find a longer shot. At 267 yard the middle target was the aim.

Holes dyed green were made at 100 yard. Holes dyed yellow were made at 267 yard. The cds dial was set at 2 for the 200 yard shoot, and at 1 for the 100 yard shoot. The dial setting for the 267 yard shoot is pictured.

In spite of them W209 primer varying so much in length, they somehow make a decent seal, as shown by the photo of the breech plug in the rifle after today's session.
