Very nice looking rifle. I am sure that would be a great shooter.

ive always liked those guns. They seem like a good rock solid piece to hunt with. Ive seen some range reports and they are excellent shooters.

Shame, shame, shame Mountaineer Magic. Those Pedersolis are mighty fine looking guns. But an unfired gun is a sad thing indeed.

A few years ago when I bought my X7 at Cabala's Bargain Cave there was either a Rocky Mountain or Missouri River Hawken (I don't recall which) on the rack next to it. It had a walnut stock. The price was something like $450 and it looked to be new/unfired. I couldn't find anything wrong with it except one or two small dings on the stock.

I had to choose between the X7 and the Pedersoli, and chose the X7 at the time. I should have bought both. After all, whatever domestic fire my returning home with two new guns might have ignited would have burned out long ago, and I would still have both guns.

I saw Mountain Magics post and since I have gotten into inline shooting figured it was time to pull these out too! I have two Hawkens I inherited from my Dad to which I never fired. Always wanted to and I asked for MM'shelp. I have Lyman bullet molds in Conical and ball for this Hawken.
I am just getting into Rifle Muzzle loading. All my experience in Muzzle Loading is with Shotguns for better than 10 yrs and recently some inline shooting with a Genesis 50 cal.

This is a 54 cal Hawkens built in 1972 by Robert D. Reeves is #49. It has a "M.M. Large" stamping on the barrel. The Tiger Maple stock is incredible. I have a range rod but no ram rod for it at this point. Guess I’ll need to get busy.

Then I have a 45 Cal Hawken too. Built in 1975 by Robert D. Reeves #59. I do have a Lyman round ball mold for this gun also. and is Also unfired by me…..

So I am new to this part of the Muzzle Loading game.
I also have a Remington Genesis 50 Cal to which I found I love to shoot more than I thought. So much so my centerfire rifles might be collecting lots of dust now.
So let the fun begin. I will be asking quite a few questions as I try to come up to the level same level of expertise I read about here. I will appreciate all help and comments.
So I pulled thme off the rack and took them apart and scrubbed the barrels on both. My patches are white as from what I have read on how you guys clean.
The guns are now muzzle down for the time being.

Well I think that the fine young lady holding it should have it as her Daddy sure as heck don't know what to do with it!!!

May I suggest 50 gr Goex 2F and a patch / ball to go with it.
