Default Winged a Jug

The other day i noticed the cds dial on the 45 Elite seemed to be good for near 400 yard. This morning i went to set out a jug, and spotted a couple of deer a way up the mountain side in a meadow. They looked to be about 300 yard; ranged them with the laser, and learned they were at 248 yard. Making a good shot on them deer would have been difficult. They sure looked far away.

Then i set a jug at 371 yard, started the camera, and shot twice at the jug, missing both times. I knelt down behind the jug, where the bullets hit the ground, and realized the bullets hit high. I figured i should lower the dial about 3 clicks. When i made the third shot, i lowered the dial only 2 clicks, and clipped the top of the jug.

Here is the winged jug video.

The load was a 200g shockwave, 120g BH, blue Harvester sabot, W209 primer. It was hard for me to set the dial because after the 3.50 mark, there are no more. Leupold could have made it more better for me, had the provided at least a 3.75 mark

When i came home i put a dimple on the dial where it was set, when the jug was clipped, figuring it will be good for 375 yard.

Judging by the marks remaining, it seems one could shoot 400 yard with this scope, and rifle. Time will tell. The 50 Extreme was maxed at 322 yard. Won't be long now, and the 45 may get a chance at deer, and then when spring comes, prairie dog.

Wow, them deer looked far, out at 248 yard.

That is some insane distances for a muzzleloader. (well not really) And a lot better then I could ever dream of doing. Very nice shooting.

Well Ron, its a good thing that jug was way out there. They can get pretty onery when they are wounded. But you must have hit an artery which gave it time to expire before you got to it. And I'm surprised it hung around after you missing it twice. I thought they were more skittish than that. I know they sure are around these parts.

Do wish i could nail more than one lion. Myself, i don't understand why we can't shoot them on sight year round like coyote. No lion track where i was today; seem to be lot of deer track. Maybe because it was near Sanders' ranch. It seems i am not sneaky enough to get a shot at a lion; i have never seen one here in SD. Only saw 2 in near 45 year of hunting in Montana.

Did see more than one lion track in the Northern hills during rifle season.

Will indeed get after hogs/dogs in the spring.

Gettin' kinda nervous about throwin' lead at a deer a way a way; may or may not never happen.
