Default T/C Omega..S.S. Barrel vs. Z5 with weathershield

I am going to buy my son a Omega for christmas, but I am debating the Z5 with weathershield. I have a Omega with a S.S. barrel and I love the gun. I guess my question is... Does anyone know of any issues with the weathershield on the Z5's???? Any input would be greatly appreciated...

I've not heard of any issues as far as pealing/bubbling but as a TC fan I'll go ahead and say it. I think Weathershield is somewhat of a joke. So it protects the outside of the gun, big friggin deal. That's what good old gun oil is for. My centerfire gun is an old Sako .308 Forester, 40+ years old blued barrel, without any rust. And its not like I baby the gun.

For a ML, if you really need corrosion protection, it's on the inside of the barrel. And that's if you are using the more corrosive propellants. If you are using BH209, that's not so important. Me, I would rather spend the extra $$ on a laminate stock.

All that said, my Omega X7 is stainless. But I got a decent deal on it.

Exactly, Weathershield is a Cheap Paint Job over a Steel Barrel. It Protects the Outside, Big Deal, how many MLer Barrels have you ever seen that are falling apart on the Outside. I want My Protection on the Inside, Nothing Beats a Stainless Steel Barrel.
Yes I have Heard of the Weathershield comming off from Scratches ect, and the Outside of the Barrel then Rust. I dont Need any Protection on the Outside of My SS Barrels.

I agree, I dont understand all the hype behind the weathershield finish on carbon steel barrels. It is pretty easy to wipe a barrel down with an oiled rag at the end of the day. Seems like a gimmick to me. Where you want your protection is the bore, and this is where stainless steel really "shines".

If money is tight skip the weathershield and just get the blued barrel. If you can afford to spend a little more, skip the weathershield and get the stainless barrel. This is just my opinion. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

if they made SS triumph they wouldn't be able to keep up with demand....

I personally like the weather shield finish but am just as happy with stainless...especially in a muzzleloader. I have a TC Icon with the weather shield finish and thus far it has proven vey durable. I also have a stainless Omega which has been very durable as well. Have had the Omega since 2003.

Seems like I remember reading that the company that makes or made "ultra bore coat" had something to do with the weather shield finish.

I agree with the others, stainless steel is the way to go. Weathershield is a cheap substitute. I had a Triumph, and was not impressed. The finish, and steel on my stainless Omega, and Firehawk, are hands down better.

I would to thank all of you for the replies. I am leaning towards the SS finish. Happy Hunting to all.
