What is the biggest difference a primer change has made for you?
Going out to the range today to try to shrink down my Deepcurl group. I have not had much of a chance to play with it yet. Have basically done 100gr BH209 with 3 different sabots. But since I started shooting muzzleloaders last year, I have only used the CCI 209M primer.
What's the biggest difference in group size that a primer change has made for you, all other things being constant?

Here is a target shot with several different primers.. Even shot a 410 primer...

I prefer the weakest primer that is still nearly 100% with BH209 and nearly blowby free. Actually some of my best groups while experimenting with the Lehigh NFPJ were with WinT7 primers. Some day i will need to try some sub zero testing since all of mine was at 40F or above.

Interesting. Looks like your group size remained relatively constant, but you experienced a slight shift in POI.
I was planning on starting with 110gr BH209 this afternoon. Perhaps that's the ticket with the Gold Dots/Deepcurls. I wish the MMP sabots had been in stock when I was ordering stuff from Midsouth, but Harvester is all I could get my hands on. I'm working with the red and black crush ribs, and the short black standards.

I would be nervous with the WinT7s since BH209 specifically says not to use them (if I recall). Even if they ignited fine on the bench, I would be nervous in the field for some reason. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to pick up a few.

I may be wrong but, i bet 110gr. will be a good start and with the black crush rib... i bet the red and the short black will be supper tight. but, either way hopefully you will find one, you will have confidence in....

Endeavor – I had a 1-inch group with 90gr BH209 and the 260gr PT Golds. But I am really wanting to use the Deepcurls this season. The short blacks are fine, but the reds are SUPER tight. I would have to swab between shots if I wanted to use those, LOL. But if I can’t get a good group out of the other sabots, I might go that route. I was shooting 100gr at 50 yards a couple of weeks ago with less than impressive results.

my omega loves the pt golds as well, this will be my first year hunting with them. it seems no matter what bullet i use in my omega, i get my best groups with 110gr. In mine the short blacks will load but are tighter than, i like.. The red crush rib, i have to stand on the rod but, the black crush ribs work great. i have been able to get 1" groups with the 300 gr. deep curls with the black crush rib and 110gr. BH209

As for the PT Golds, here is why I do not want to hunt with them. I fired 3 shots last year with them at deer.
Deer 1 - 150 yards, perfect heart/lungs, large entry and exit wounds, massive blood trail.
Deer 2 - between 35-45 yards, neck shot, down but still alive, had to finish off. The fact that it didn't die from the neck shot in and of itself is no big deal to me as far as bullet performance is concerned. I am still not sure how I hit it in the neck when the crosshairs were on the lungs.
Deer 3 - 10 yards max, had to shoot left handed due to the angle and the fact that I was on the ground and any shifting in the leaves would have spooked the buck off. I saw the shot...crosshairs were on the heart when it went bang. Never found any blood, never found the deer. The next day I shot at a target at 10 yards left-handed, and easily hit it. I believe I hit the deer, and I believe the bullet did not expand, hence my current dance with Deepcurls.
