Default Green Mountain Barrels

I know this is older than dirt, but since I have never seen it before, I thought I would pass it along anyway.

The recall is just for liability reasons. There wasn't anything wrong with the barrels. What happened was some barrels had nipples installed that were the wrong thread size. I had 2 of them and I just changed the nipples out . I talked to kerry about this way back when. So if anybody is worried just check and make sure the threads on your nipples are the correct size, you don't really need to send the barrel in unless you would rather have them make sure

Actually some of the recalled barrels had to have a thing installed in the nipple thread area that put a tighter grip on the installed nipple. I had two of the barrels that needed it. I sent them in and they took care of the problem. But you are right.. this is a very old warning that came out. But you never know.. someone might have one of these barrels sitting around in a box somewhere they never shot. Better safe then sorry. Thanks.

The serial number on my Green Mountain .50 caliber Long Range Hunter barrel falls into the span of serial numbers given for barrels to be recalled. The thing is, the post that I copied was made back in 2004 I believe. I just bought my barrel last year. I would imagine they would have corrected the problem before the barrel was sent to me, wouldn't you?

I have bought about 6 barrels from then since hen that fall in that range and they all came with the correct nipples so I am sure they checked everything in stock and fixed it before it went out. You can check by making sure the nipple is a 1/4 by 28 and not a metric nipple

I also have a barrel that I got about a year ago that is on that list. Mine is a Stainless barrel. What you will look for is if the threads for the nipple look like they are cut into the metal or if it looks like a spring was pushed into the hole. The later is called a helicoil. What they did was replace the breach plug on those barrels that had the helicoil. My barrel has a blued breech plug. Mine was fixed before it left the factory. I am betting your was too. Look to see if it has the coils. Ron
