Default Something better than JB

We all know that JB compound has been around for a while and is great for occasional use to clean bores. Both ML and centerfire.
But I think I found something even better for polishing the bore. I found this quite by accident after working on my truck.
When I was done, I went into my basement bathroom and started washing my hands with liquid Lava soap. As I was scrubbing away I felt the fine pummice getting into all the nooks, crannys and scars on my hands. HMMMMMMMM
I had an old .50 cal barrel laying around that had some minor pitting so out it came. A 50 cal brush wrapped with a patch on my range rod, soaked with liquid Lava hand cleaner and the scrubbing commenced. (I did wet the bore with a gun oil patch first). I scrubbed and scrubbed, maybe 150 - 200 strokes. Adding the Lava as needed. When I was satisfied, I swabbed the bore with clean patches then gave it a hot water rinse. The barrel is still probably not very accurate but I was impressed as to how well it cleaned up.

My mother used to wash my mouth out with Lava soap.
I am guessing that that liquid Lava is more aggressive than the JB?

I know what you're talking about in Lava soap. I was a mechanic, and that's what we used before all the gels used now.

I might want to find out what that grit is before using it in a bore.

It is pummice. And it is very fine. I'm not saying to get realy aggressive with it. But if you need something tougher than JB, this will work. And it rinses away easily with hot water.

That is a very good idea. I will have to get some of that and try it on a barrel I have. If it don't work I can always wash my hands with it.

I can remember Lava being in the shop where we washed up. Dad always used Lava as he'd be really dirty at the end of the day.

Question

Not sure i would want to use this stuff. It may be a little too harsh for the inside of a barrel. I would put this stuff in the same category as heavy duty sandpaper.

Think I will stay with the JB for now.
