I discovered so far the Renegade doesn't like round balls, I shot 80, 85,90 grains of 3f with a .018 patch
The group was about pie plate size at 5o yards, one would go high, then low so nothing consistent -
My buddy had a few maxiballs left over so I tried them with 90 grains and 85 grains - they grouped consistently better and my last four shots were what I wanted - with the exception of one of the shots three were touching spot on at 50, the one that flew outside was left
Things discovered so far, the Renny doesn't like a dirty barrel groups improved with cleaning after each shot
any powder charge with a maxi kicks harder than round ball loads
My eyesight isn't what it used to be
Trying to determine next course of action

When I shoot roundball, I use 2f black powder. I get the best accuracy with 85 or 90 grains and a .490 ball.

My fav RB load is 80 - 90 gr of FFg, .490 ball and .018" patch, olive oil or bore butter lube. That's potent enough for any deer or hog around.

A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have.
I'm not as good as I'm gonna get - but I'm better than I used to be. "Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil - it has no point."
IMO, After a good smart whack with the short starter, if a good firm pressure is all that is needed to push the bullet/ball down the bore, you are OK. You don't want it so tight that you have to beat it down to the charge. If this is what you are experiencing then .015" patches may be too thin.
Next time check your patches to make sure they are not burned through. If your patches are cut, you may want to work your bore a bit with JB compound. This will remove any fine buildup of residue in the bore.

With a round ball we are asking that patch to do a lot, get Zombie to go pick a few up and post up what they look like and I can probably trouble shoot for you...
I'd also ditch the prelubed patches...Go to WalMart, buy some bulk pillow ticking and SnoSeal...Tear a inch and a half strip of ticking, put some SnoSeal on one side, center the ball, push down to just below the bore and cut with a sharp knife...
This is the only way to have fresh patches that won't burn through...
I've had similar experiences with the PRB's in both the Hawken and Renegade.
If you have a 50, try the Hornady PA Conicals. They're 240 grains, cheap to buy, easy on the shoulder and accurate. If you don't need the romance of a PRB they are a great option.
I'll work on the PRB again but these provide a great compromise.
