Some things just don't make sense to me/. For example , where I live you have to have a 45 cal or larger for Blackpowder hunting to be legal. The bullet on the right in the photo is a T/C maxi hunter in .45 cal 240 gr . that's legal. The bullet on the left is a 41 cal 410 gr No excuse for my .410 White. That's not legal since the minimum cal is 45 or larger. Go figure.
I could even use a 45 cal round ball but no not that piddley 41 cal. Oh and Black powder pistols . Totally illegal for hunting. My 54 cal Lyman pistol. NOPE can't hunt with that.

Chet, we have about the same rules here... when I questioned them to Fish and game their response was they were making rules to and that apply for patched round ball guns. They wanted to make a set of simple easy to read and encompassing rule. Thus no-one wopuld be hunting deer with a .36 squirrel rifle. In-lines and even more modern side locks were not the thought then. And now to keep the rules simple - they still apply...

Keep on Shooting Muzzleloaders they are a Blast
Another thing that has confused me about our regulations here is the actual caliber of the bullet. I have read and reread the regulations several times; perhaps i will need to speak to a warden. What i have decided is i can shoot a 40 caliber bullet during the rifle season out of my muzzle loaders. However, i am still confused as to whether or not one can use a 40 caliber bullet during the muzzle loader season.
To be safe, i will be shooting 45 caliber bullet during the muzzle loader season, and during the rifle season.
We have the same crazy rules. I could use a .40 caliber during the modern season but not during the muzzleloader season. I was going to purchase an electra (I know.. but I wanted one). Well its legal in modern season but not in muzzle loader season. What you have is people writing laws with the basic common sense on how these rifles and their projectiles actually work.

Chet, I'll take that 54 pistol off your hands. Maybe we can work a deal for (you know what). Here in PA the rules are similar. But the wording is a bit different. It says you must use a rifle .44 cal or larger. However there is no mention of the projectile. So my .400" 200 gr XTP in a 45/40 sabot is legal. Also, the PGC is allowing the use of ML pistols .50 cal and larger. So your Lyman .54 would be a great complimentary piece for my Hawken/GM .54 rilfe.
