Default T/V vs Dixie Gun Works?s

DON'T ask me why, but for "crapsNgiggles" I have decided that I want a traditional smokepole to hang on the wall of a new farmhouse/hunting cabin I'm building on my place. BUT I actually want to take it down and USE it on occasion also. I still have my lil ol Knight Wolverine and Savage ML2 for "serious" smokepolin but I gotta admit I want to occasionally go after them "Daniel Boone style" down in my swamp with iron sights under 100yds.

I'm pretty much set on a percussion Hawken style (possibly even a .54 cal but not 100% sworn on that yet) and don't want ultra cheap like CVA, Traditions but I don't want to sink several grand into a super nice hand made rifle that's mainly going to hang on the wall either. I'm willing to spend $750-$1k on the rifle and for simplicities sake I've kinda been looking at the T/C Hawken and the DGW Hawken. Who makes DGW Hawkens? (I'm assumin Pedersoli of Italy?) I want to shoot loose powder, round balls or maxi's, buffalo etc... No sabots or modern bullets.

What say da court???

That Pedersoli that Muley recommended is a mighty nice rifle if you want to lay out the cash for it. Cabala's has them on sale for $900. (http://www.cabelas.com/product/Rocky...h-All+Products)

But I'm with Chetmarks. For a good looking solid shooter for a lot less money you can hardly beat the Lyman Great Plains.

That Rocky Mtn. Maple Hawken is DA BOMB!!! I really wanted the maple and rust brown finish to begin with but didn't think they'd be anywhere in the ballpark price range.

For hanging on the wall they are beautiful but I have one in maple and the Great Plains Rifle and the GPR is a better hunting gun at half the cost.

You can get a really nice semi-custom from TVM builders for $1,000 or under. A Southern Mountain Poor Boy would look great on the wall. And would double up as a fantastic shooter.
I have one on order from TVM right now(not a poor boy, but an Early Lancaster Model). Should be here in a week or two. I will post some pics. when it comes. Tom.

I wouldn't have suggested this gun if you hadn't set a price you were willing to pay. The LYman GPR is a nice gun, but it's not in the same class as the Pedersoli if you want a good looker and a shooter.

For more than one opinion. Check these out.
