Default The Knight Mountaineer is different.

I think there is some confusion on how to load a primer on the bare primer conversion. The primer needs to slide into the groove on the bolt. Not drop into the bolt like the Lehigh conversion.

The picture below shows the groove the primer needs to slide into.

The next picture here shows the primer in the slot on the bolt. The bolt will not close unless the primer is in the slot. And also the slot lines up the primer to go into the breech plug. It's really easy to drop a primer in front of the slot which will allow the bolt not to close.

Grouse, that is a unique approach to priming. Do they make a tool to assist in priming that rifle. The tools I've seen and used in the past grip the primer by the rim. Looks like that won't work with this set up.
I sure hope they put that instruction in there manual AND the people read it as they should! Good 'heads up' for the new Knight users.

Great post Grouse! That makes me wonder with my poor eyesight up close if I had my primer in the groove when putting it into to the breechplug? If I would have, I wouldn't have been able to open the bolt and the primer stay in the breech plug? My "loading" error could have been all me?? I could have swore I had the primer in the groove but after thinking about, there is no way I should have been able to open the bolt. Thanks for this post!!

Tom's pictures were a bit on the dark side so I lightened them up so you could see the primer rails on the face of the bolt.

Because of the way Dave tapered the rails, wide at the mouth I think it will still be very easy to drop a primer in place.

Tom says for him it has become somewhat routine...

I didn't find a priming tool necessary. even with the scope and my fat fingers I didn't have any trouble putting the primer in, although I did drop it a couple times. And since GM mentioned firing again if the primer wouldn't come out that solved my problem.

I wen to the Knight site and looked over the rifles they now have. This Mountaineer seems nice, but a little pricey. The other thing that caught my eye was it came in two calibers, .50 and .52. sorry I have never heard of a .52 caliber in a present day inline. Why not a .54 cal?

I have a Knight Vision and like it very much. But I didn't have to take out a special loan to get it. Am I off on this and not seeing something.
