I'm a new member looking for info. Hopefully this year I will be able to get started in BP hunting, as it should be easier to find time for this portion of deer season. A couple of years ago I recieved a Traditions Pursuit II Guide Gun, topped with a Nikon Prostaff 3x9, as gift. It seems like a nice rifle but hopefully I will be able to upgrade to a nice Lyman Great Planes or a Hawkens. I just can't seem to connect with a BP rifle that looks and feels like a single shot centerfire.

Welcome to the Forum, good bunch of guys here except for a few troublemakers....

Don't apoligize for what you are using, we all started somewhere and it's all good...
You might even consider using that gun as a starter rifle because that's what it's
going to be if you enjoy yourself...

Welcome to the forum freebirdfb. That gun and scope will certainly get you in the game. I lean towards the sidehammer guns also, but do presently have two in-lines that I wouldn't part with. Both have their uses and are enjoyable.

Have you shot that Traditions yet, or is it still a virgin?

Welcome, and I hear you. I have hunted with T/C Hawkens, Renegades and New Englanders, a Lyman Trade Rifle, a Knight Wolverine, a Pedersoli Flintlock, and a Semi-custom Flintlock Longrifle. One day, I may try a flint smoothbore Fusil or Fowler. But as a practical consideration, what you have will carry and shoot as well as anything I have mentioned. Don't sell it short, just to get a sidelock. Get both if you can.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a great rifle. And when your ready, you can own two of them.. the next being a Hawkins or something like that.

Welcome! There is some good info on here. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

I haven't shot it yet, but plan on doing so when I can. I'm an adult college student so time and funds are limited.

Once you buy a ML--you'll buy another. Like Lays potato chips!
Oh yeah, Welcome!
