Default Blackpowder Pistols for deer suggestions

I was reading thru my states rules and regs today and got to a part where I read it was legal to hunt with blackpowder pistols with no less than 40gr of powder. Well I've been looking to buy a new toy, why not!
Any suggestions? I'm a long time hunter using every weapon, except a blackpowder pistol, this should be fun!

Oh Man! I'm getting excited looking this stuff up. I didn't even think of inlines, I was looking at the old school models and thinking 20-25yd shots, now this opens everything up. Really going to do some research and see what's out there.

i'd go with the traditions and lighter weight 200gr sabot or conical.

The new Traditions pistol is the only kid on the block in a modern platform. Ive wanted to try one but im not shelling out $350 to find out i don't like it. Im not sold on barrel porting for sabot use either. 50-60gr with a conical should really thump though and it might burn BH209 a bit better than a lighter bullet.

I had a friend that bought one of the Traditions,so I got to see and handle it.I will stay with my round ball 54plains pistol.you put the two side by side and I think you would agree.

chetmarks

A 54cal PRB would surely get er done. I would lean towards a conical in the Traditions.

PA has allowed that this year also for their early season or regular rifle season. But here it has to be at least .50 cal. Chet, why don't you sell me that Lyman to go along with my .54 Hawken? That would be a great combo to carry in the deer woods. And even good for dem old bar!
