Default I love my new .54

You guys know I got a GM 1:70 twist 54 for my Hawken stock. I had previously posted some 50 yd targets that were pretty impressive. Well I installed a T/C tang peep on it and this morning before it got too hot I took her out again. This time I shot at 75 yds. (At this range, the front bead just about covers the 6" bull.) Using my 90 gr charge of FFg, .530 RB and Pillow tick patch the rifle still cluster the PRB into a nice little group. And surprisingly, I also tried 90 gr of Pyro RS and it hit the same POI.
I also shot the GM LRH SS 50 cal this morning so I could alternate between rifles. Because it shot 250 gr SWs well, I wanted to try some 240 gr .429" Nosler soft point bullets I had on hand. They shot pretty well and show promise but damn, I hate those fiber optic sights. I think I am going to get another peep for this rifle. I seem to shoot much better with the peep than with std open sights.

Just in case you guys think I am BSing I figured I better post the target. One more thing. Before I left, I shot a 1/2 watermelon at 50 yds that had been in our frig before we left for FL and it was going bad. The 54 PRB did an excellent job of exploding the rind into nice fist sized pieces and vaporizing most of the red juicy part.

That is some impressive shooting. I should have never sold my .54 caliber. It was just a great shooter.

Me too and its going to take a custom build to make my feel differently. Mines a little brush gun but i love the 54cal. I probably wont get a 54 for PRBs anytime soon but that Cabelas Hawkens carbine still tempts me sometimes.

I knew you would. Fun, accurate, cheap to shoot, mild recoil, effective for deer at 100 yards. What's not to like?

Even though I have a new .54 kit coming, I still want to get one of those round ball barrels. It looks like you have yours shooting darn well. Now, put a scope on it.

Pluckit - ARE YOU INSANE! AND FALL INTO THE DARK SIDE LIKE SEMISANE? No way.
There is only one sidelock that I am putting a scope on. But it is a replica scope (36" brass - 3/4" tube). It is at the shop now getting drilled and tapped. Pictures will be forthcoming when I get the barrel back.

I'm going to have to take a chance and possibly sin for the first time in my life. When I finish putting my traditions .54 caliber side lock together I'm slapping a scope on it for sure.
