Default inexpensive youth muzzleloader?

My youngest is 13 y/o and small for his age. He wants to muzzleloader hunt with his older brother an myself this year for deer (September). I have just started poking around trying to find a inexpensize youth muzzleloader for him and haven't been to sucessful. I would like to find a used one and have been looking at gunbroker.com, but haven't found anything. Anyone have a suggestion in the $150 range. I have 2 knight wolverines (.50 and .54). I have thought about buying another one if I could find a youth stock. I would really like to get a .45 cal for him if I could, but he can shoot the .50 without much problem.

Cabelas has the CVA Wolf on sale right now for $149

I have one and it would make a nice youth rifle. The stock is not specifically youth-sized, but you can check the dimensions and see if it would work for him.

Not a lot of options in .45 out there anymore. I have a .45 CVA Hunterbolt that has treated me well - if you can find a used one, you can cut down the synthetic stock yourself and add a new recoil pad on the end. I've played around with some low-power loads- 70 grains of powder and a 200 .40 cal XTP - recoil is very mild, like shooting a .410 shotgun with field loads.

If you get a .50 and are worried about recoil, use a .40/.50 sabot with a 200 grain bullet and a reduced powder charge. Hope this helps!

http://www.gunsamerica.com/981372366...VALUE_PACK.htm this is the best youth model muzzleloader on the market. oldenglish outfitters had them for $149.00 but ran out of them. they still have the full size LOP model for $149.00, but you would need to find a youth stock for it. my 9 year old shoots the youth model .50 cal with 65 gr 777 and a .250 gr bullet with no problems. only other option is to buy a new knight little horn and there a lot more money.. the wolf is a neat lil rifle but the stock was not designed for lil people.. Perhaps consider spending a little more and get him one that will be all he needs for life. I was under the impression that the T/C Impact has an adjustable stock, but I will not swear to it.

The wolverine was a good idea. They make a good rifle for all around hunting. If you have one with the 22 inch barrel, that should do real nice.

Cayugad the youth wolverines i mentioned come with a 22" barrel and a 12.5 LOP.the new littlehorns come with the same youth stock and you can purchase a full size LOP stock later on for continued use as one becomes a adult.i bought the youth model for my son and my other half, then purchased a full size stock for 40.00 and shoot striclty full bore conicals with it. i can switch stocks as needed lol. the t/C imapct is another option if the 13.5 LOP will fit the person shooting it. From my experience the LOP is critical for younger shooters. Ray

Default The Impact

Friend of mine in our club bought one for his grandson to hunt with him. The stock is adjustable. It shoots just as well as the more expensive TC's.

chet the one thats listed on the gunsamerica site is a new wolverine with a starter kit for $199.00.the rifle is basically a bighorn with a 22" barrel black stock blued finish. i posted it since he wanted something reasonably priced.as stated oldenglishoutfitters had both the youth and standard wolverine on sale for $149.00 NIB. they have sold out of the youth models, but still have the full size at that price..also they are not the wolverine with that funky rear butt stock that has wolverine name molded into it Ray

I would go with the TC Impact. That way it can grow with him instead of buying another gun down the road.

The Knight Wolverine Youth Value Pack on GunsAmerica is now listed for $149 plus shipping from Guns Unlimited Omaha.
I suggest to buy it while you can since they're not easy to find.
I've bought BP guns from that same outfit and they're a reputable dealer.
The TC Impact is a very nice rifle but it has a 26 inch barrel.
