It's going to be 104 here today in KC and the wife was looking at me like " don't you have something to do? " So I went over to a pawn shop that always had a bunch of guns just to sniff around a little. ( dangerous, I know )
They have an Original DISC 45 with a fluted stainless barrel and comp stock. I'd call the condition good but not great. There's a few spots where the stainless is " grayed out " a bit along the stock barrel contact line. The action and BP look clean.
Here's the kicker, it has a nice Thompson Center 3X9 scope on it. I looked at the TC site and it appears they have pretty good scopes. Did they ever make low end scopes?
I asked if they could pull the BP and they had no idea what I was talking about. Said if I wanted to pull it and look at the bore just come back with the tools and have at it.
The price is $175. Thoughts on the price with the scope? Can the stainless be cleaned up at all or is it discolored for good? This is assuming the barrel checks out which of course would be a deal breaker.

If the bore is good and with the scope on the rifle. sounds like a real good deal, some of those early disc .45 cal rifles were 1:20 twist and not 1:30.. i am sure you can clean up the stainless also.. Ray
They sell T/C Scopes at Walmart for $40 or so here with mounts during muzzle loading season. So they do make some low end ones.
I honestly wouldn't pay much more than $75-100 for just the rifle, and maybe $30 or so for the scope used, but that's just my opinion. Muzzleloaders just go dirt cheap around here, and even then they are hard to sell.
Just gotta ask yourself how much you want it and can you afford it. Not just the purchase but the ammo, supplies, etc. I don't know about you but things seem to get more and more expensive. At some point we all have to draw the line in the sand and simply let the good deal go away. Hell I'm still having fun tinkering with my Triumph. Sometimes I think its more fun to try different things with your current guns then it is to buy new ones. I have a guy at work that owns over 30 rifles. Yet he only really shoots 3-4. Complains all the time he doesn't have the money for scopes, powder, bullets, etc. Yet if he scaled back on buying guns he would have the money to really enjoy the 3-4 he shot. Also I'm the type that you get to many guns its seems you can't shoot any really really good. Too many different scopes, triggers, stocks, etc. can mess me up. Rather be really good with three then half *** with 10. Yet I still own 11 guns. But again I still really only shoot 3.
I have used T/C scopes for about 20 years, not only on my muzzleloaders, but on some of my centerfire rifles also. I currently have several 3X9X40, 1.5X5X32, and 4X32 fixed. Very good scopes, especially for the money. The ones sold at WalMart, as far as I know, have only been sold for the past few years, and are different than the T/C scope line that is in the catalog, and thier web site. I believe they are a low end, starter item as was the T/C Woods Rifle, that was also sold at WalMart, and not featured in the T/C catalog.
Value will be effected by if its a 1-20 or a 1-30 twist. The 1-20s are rare but some people dont like them. If you know how to load/mod them properly, the 1-20 can be a wicked shooter with 200gr bullets in sabots and big conicals.
In stainless and if its an Original DISC 45cal under a 5000 serial number it will be a 1-20. I cant remember the exact cut off but its in the 5000s for SS. IMO if the bore is excellent, its a pretty good deal if it hasn't been abused.
Edit: All Original 45s in SS with a serial #005043 and lower should be a 1-20.

a hunnerd out the door is all id pay. BP rifles take forever to sell around here too, and were startin to now see the new lower price break-opens in the pawn shops. the old in-lines sit sometimes for a year or more until theyre practically given away.
