Default #11 percussion caps

I'm sure this question has been asked before but my old feeble mind can't remember.
What #11 caps do you guys recommend. I have used CCI and Win caps and they have never failed to go off nor failed to ignite the charge. But they occasionally fall off the nipple during a hunt. I know you can bend them slightly or some guys recommended spraying them with clear lacquer.
How about RWS caps? Are they slightly smaller? If so, I may have to order a tube of them from my local gun shop. Or any other brand that is better.

The RWS are called 10.75 because they are a blond pubic hair smaller than the #11 caps. They might just stay on the nipple better for you and they are a powerful cap. I also use the new Remington caps and like them a lot. For some of my nipples the rws are too tight.

Yes the RWS are smaller and very powerful. I have ran out of my RWS supply, and was lucky enough to find some Winchester caps at Gander Mountain for $4.99 a pack. So I purchased every one of them they had hanging there. So I am shooting them now, and they are working real good. If the caps are loose, put a touch of candle wax on the edge (but not the top) of the nipple and then push them down. It not only tightens them up, but helps to water proof them also.

Cayugad, that sounds like a good idea with the candle wax. I have lots of Win Mag caps. I usually get them at Walmart at the end of the season when they go on sale for about $2 a tin. I'm having trouble finding RWS caps and I refust to pay the hazmat fees for shipping.

RWS are out there but they are twice as much as the other caps. I always carry a couple birthday candles with me when I muzzle load hunt. They are small, easy to carry, you can water proof your flintlock pans with them, and in an emergency... easy to light to make a fire.

I was going to ask weather you were talking #11 regular caps or #11 mag caps... but that was not your question...

Flounder and Cayugad pointed out exactly what I might have said...

but I will add there is way to get around the cap falling off.

I was touring the Track of the Wolf site the other day and may have found a partial answer...

Go here...

http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Catego...Size=25&Page=3

find and check ROS-05 and the next few under it...

These are slightly oversized nipples for the CCI and Remington caps - made as a direct result as t owhat you are talking about - the cap falling off.

The AMPCO bronze nipple is quite a nipple and long lasting to-boot...

I recently ran into this problem with the Red Hot nipples and even the RWS 1075 has a hard time staying on the nipple.

I have ordered some +5 - #11 nipples just to check the fit.

Pete, Is the overall length of that oversize Ampco nipple the same as the Knight red hot nipple?

I like the Ampco and I turn a bit of the end offand use the RWS 1075 for hunting I also use a bit of wax on the nipple and a wad under a greased patch which seals the powder in. I took the best buck I have taken in a down pour with a 54 caliber Hawken rifle that I built myself back when I was in the business.

I had a problem once with Remington caps not going off. It was a few years ago but I will still only use them to dry out the nipple and flame channle before loading. I use CCI and pinch the opening slightly before putting them on the nipple and have never had one fall off. I've never had one not go off either.
