Default Off topic: Crossbow Vs Groundhogs

Now that I have moved inside city limits I can no longer kill Groundhogs with my BP unless I travel the country side. So I am using a bow now. It is amazing that theses hogs will let you get within 30 yards of them, but that is the city life.

Here is my ninth hog this week.

Pic one is the blood trail.
Pic two is the exit hole

I switched to mechanical broad-heads because my fixed would go through the hog and disappear into the ground. My longest shot was 40 yards and the hog took the arrow that went through his body with him into the whole

That was a $13.33 broad head and a 7 dollar arrow. $20.00 shot.

Definitely cheaper to shoot a sabot.

Awesome. I've taken 4 or 5 groundhogs with my crossbow. But as you mentioned, it is an expensive way to go varmit hunting. I tended to break arrows, heads or lose them down the hole with the hog. My best shot ever was a 65 yard shot with the crossbow- there was a blood trail leading into the hole, and no arrow. My second best was a 20 yard head shot that dropped Mr. Woodchuck on the spot.

65 yards is a great shot! I bet he never knew what hit him.

Them arrows become time encapsulated in them holes..lol

I wonder if I could shoot my BP out the upstairs window and nobody notice? My wife would not like the smoke in the room though...
