Default A fit at the range.

I had a fit at the range today. I finally took my not so new but still never been fired, untill today, Knight Vision to the range today. My plan has been to keep this rifle as my designated Blackhorn 209 shooter. So that was all I took with it to the range today. At first things were looking good at 25 yards so I moved to 100 and couldn't hit paper using a speer 225 hollow point in a TC Mag express sabot, left overs I was using to get her on paper, pushed by 80 grains of Blackhorn. (I was being cheap and didn't have a bunch of Blackhorn anyway) Come to find out the quick release rings had come loose. I started all over and still had no success. Almost 30 shots later and ready to give up I loaded her up with 100 grains to see how she'll do and got this on my last target shot at 50 yards.

I find it hard to believe how big of a dfference 20 grains can make.
I'll have to take her back out and start all over at 100 grains next time. But I'll have to go buy some more Blackhorn first.

Black horn is a progressive burning powder, unless I am shooting a very heavy conical i start out at 90 gr and go up 10 gr at a time when I find the sweet spot I check 5 gr each way to be sure I have the best load. A progressive burning powder requires a certain starting pressure to be stable other wise any small changes cause it to vary some. This is especially true when more wad pressure or a tighter sabot bullet combination would improve the situation.

100-110gr of BH209 should give you the accuracy you are looking for using 250-300gr bullets. Just my experience and 2 cents from shooting a lot of jugs of BH209.

Knights are normally good shooting rifles pluckit so I think you will get her shooting eventually. I don't have any experience with BH209 so I can't provide any comments for you on that.
Good luck

Just remember all the variables your working with here, pluckit. If I read your post correctly it sounds like you only had one bullet/sabot combo on hand to try.

Next time out, try some different bullets/sabots or even conicals if your still having issues.

There are a couple of guys on here that either have or have had Knight Visions, and if I remember correctly they claim to get very good accuracy with that particular rifle. I dont remember what type of load they were using- maybe one of them will chime in here and give you a tip on what to try. Or you could do a search of the archives.

Good luck. Sooner or later you will figure it out. Experimenting is half the fun!!!!!!!!
