Default OK New Plan

Well went shopping today and I found a gun that I wish I didn't. A TC Hawken .50 Flintlock for $360.00 The brass is dull, stock has a few handling marks. But nothing major. The barrel looks good from what I can tell. Personnally I think its worth the $360. What do you guys say? I know a new retails for atleast double. What would you guys do? I have them holding it for me till tuesday. Would you buy it? Also the Tang is drilled and tapped for peep sight.

That's a good buy if the bore is good with no pits.

the price of a new one.. that is getting to be a real fair price. The says of getting them for $200 are long gone. If the bore is good, you could try to offer them less, but that might be a real fair price.

I agree. The brass easily polishes up nice with Brasso. The bore and the lock are the most important things to check. If you don't have a bore light, take Pluckit's tip of using a nickle plated 38 casing dropped down the bore and a LED light to shine down it to look for pitting.

Sounds ok if the bore is ok. Too bad it isn't a .54, but it will be good for deer.

That's the only thing that's holding me back. It's not a 54. Just have to think about it.

Well I'm going to hold off in getting it. It sure is a nice rifle, but the 50cal thing is buggin the hell out of me. Every sidelock I own is a 54. And the only 50 cal is my inline (and if TC made a 54 I would have that instead). I could buy it and rebarrrel it to a 54 or have Oregon barrel company make one. But I don't know if its worth doing that. I have really been eyeing on october country the Liver eaten Johnson rifle. http://www.octobercountry.com/produc...productid=1177 Just that the price tag is alittle high. Granted it is custom, maybe some day though.
