Default Bear Fat for Lube.

I know that Cayugad has talked about using bear fat for lube. Well at www.octobercountry.com they make it. Bumblin bear grease in four ounce tubes. They also make some really nice custom rifles. My Muzzleloader magazine came today and had an article on it. So if anyone wants to try it. I may at some point. Also I got my bullets in the mail today to try in my .54 LRH barrel. May have to go out and play this weekend!!! hehehe

Back in the 60's and 70's I used to hunt bear in Canada before the messed it up with a bunch of not so smart laws .
We used bear and coon grease for patches for many years it works just fine but it is easy to over do, to much creates problems. Since there are raccoons all over the country they are not to hard to come by and it is not difficult to render some oil and it work well to.

Bear fat is the best, but Mink Oil is a very close second. It's what I use.

Pure mutton tallow mixed with beeswax is the preferred lube of many C&B revolver shooters, and many rifle shooters use it too.
After being out of stock for a long time, the word is now out that Dixie Gun Works has just received a new supply of pure mutton tallow:

A similar product named Old Zip Patch Grease already has the mutton tallow and beeswax mixed together for added convenience:

Are you guys sure this is real bear fat? I thought you couldnt sell animal fats and stuff like that due to laws. I remember on the traditional forum some one had to give it away free of charge but was ok to charge for shipping.

Must be a state thing. Here's the ad.

Bear Grease is an all natural patch lube designed especially for the rigors of cold weather hunting. No more \"punched through\" frozen patches. The exclusive blend of bear grease and beeswax, plus other natural ingredients, makes this an ideal lube for traditional shooters and re-enactors, too.
4 oz. Please check your states regulations regarding purchasing and receiving this item.
