Default Interesting Day At The Range

My inner voice has been getting louder lately. I told myself that today i'll get it worked out.

I took the scoped Omega, and my Renegade with GM barrel to the range.

I took 10 shots with the Omega shooting 100gr BH 209 and 300gr Thors.

Then I took 10 shots with the Renegade shooting 80 gr of Swiss and a PRB.

I repeated this 3 times. I then cleaned up the guns, and sat down to think about both guns. I asked myself what was more fun? What do I want to shoot the rest of my life?

Even though the Omega kicked ass in accuracy. Up to 75 yds the Renegade held it's own, and that was with open sights.

It really wasn't a hard decision. The Renegade won easily.

With my mind set. I took the Omega, and my last CF gun. A Winchester Model 70 30-06 to the gun shop, and sold them.

I've tried to do this many times and failed. I'm positive my mind is made up this time. I'm going to use the Renegade for everything now. Deer, elk, roundy's, coyote, and ML shoots.

Am I restricted now? Hell ya, but that just makes it better.

Sometimes going back in time, is moving forward in fun.

Wow... that was a heck of a decision. I don't think I could ever do that. But if it makes you happy then its a good thing.

My plans are to build one. Left hand flint Hawken.

I need to save up some more. Kit is around $1000.

May as well make it a .58 Muley.

I find myself shooting sidelocks about twice as much as my in-lines. If you don't mind risking your soul, a scoped GM LRH barrel is no slouch when compared to in-lines as far as range goes. Of course, you have to forgo that BlackHorn stuff.

Even with one of the scoped Renegades I feel kinda smug heading out for a hunt when all of the other guys in the club are carrying cartridge rifles. And if I'm carrying one of the peep sighted Hawkens or the Great Plains flinter you can see the smug cloud for miles.

I might consider a peep later, but just primitive open sights for now.

Scope? Never again. Even though I have a permit to use one in ML season here.

I'm really going to go primitive with all I use and wear. I'll be reenacting a mountain man from 1840. My ML club only allows pre 1840. Open sights until you're 70, and then they allow a peep. I've got 1 1/2 years until 70.

As time goes by i'll get more and more into character. I might just wear buckskins full time. The gun and everything I use to load it will be period correct. Cast the balls myself. Make my own lube from natural sources. (mink oil) Make my clothing, shooting bag, powder horn, knife etc.

It should be a fun journey.

Aw Muley, I just don't see how you could become more of a character than you already are.
