Default I KNOW this one is gunna leave a mark

In another moment of weakness and since it was such a good deal. I should be getting her next week. Personally, i think SOMEONE set me up because they knew i wouldn't pass up this one.

NULA Model M209 50cal

Looks like you basic 24" bolt action inline right.....but it weighs under 5lbs. Timney trigger, Kevlar/graphite stock with full length bedding of the receiver and the Douglas barrel. Basically everything but the trigger and barrel are made in house and designed by Melvin Forbes of New Ultra Light Arms.

Im sure it would have some stout recoil even with average sub loads but it is smokeless ready. I think i might have to pass on the 325gr FTX at 2200fps+ in this one.

That 325 load isn't as bad as you think, because you are not going to feel the recoil from all the crud/crap/smoke generating particle of Black and subs when it is propelled it with smokeless. I have shot my 333 gr. hard cast at that velocity.

Smokeless is in reality the original BP sub.

Interesting. I don't believe I have ever heard of nor seen one of those before. Are they still being made or is that a discontinued model?

Nice looking gun. I just wish they were a little faster twist. If I remember right they are 1:32. I would prefer a 1:24 for it. Let us know how she does

In my Savage it isn't too bad at close to 2300fps but it is brisk. Similar to my 54cal carbine and 120gr of BH209 with a 300gr SOCOM. Ive heard the NULA stock design does help with recoil but its even lighter than my 54cal carbine by over a pound. Ive got a 54x50-385gr i shoot in the carbine that is really stout with a max BH209 load but it shoots great. The recoil calculator lists that 385gr load plus sabot and powder weights at over 40lbs of free recoil.

I will certainly try the 325gr FTX with the load i use in the Savage. It cant be worse than my Marlin 1895 45/70 Guide Gun and some of the higher end loads that are safe.

No, you can buy a new one for $1300+. They are still for sale on his website but i think he stopped selling 45cals. I really didn't want a 50cal but a light weight smokeless for hunting might be interesting. I got it cheap enough that im comfortable giving it a try.

chetmarks

Im a bit concerned about the slow twist too but they appear to shoot upto a 300gr pretty good and 250gr-275gr class bullets really well. I would be thrilled if i can get the Barnes SOCOM to shoot at just 2000fps but with a boat tail its not likely. I really love that bullet.

Nice new toy. I'll be waiting for a report after you get it.

MD looks good. Boy the MLs are getting to look more and more like CF rilfes. They even make Semi's sinful sisters look 'traditional'. Can't wait to see the report on this one.

Thats probably because it is based on his model 20 bolt action he uses for a couple applications from 22LR to 308 Short action cartridges. This one is more like his rimfire bolt design but in a slightly larger action. Melvin Forbes makes his own actions unlike most that are modified versions of other brands.

Im just going to put my little Simmons 4x32 on it if it fits the rings just to keep it light. Plus i dont have another scope for it atm with a good amount of eye relief...just in case.
