Default Buying REAL Black Powder

Now that I have a new flintlock on the way, I find the need to buy REAL black powder. I have no retail store around the area that sells black powder. I found this website http://www.powderinc.com. The price isn't really bad but you have to buy 5lb or more. Its 22 dollars a pound if I buy 5lbs. Is that a good buy? Has anyone bought powder from these guys? Every other website I've found makes you buy a 25lb box. I'm tempted to order some.

Not sure what brnd you are buying. It sounds like Swiss. I buy Goex and am buying it locally for what amounts to about $13.50 a pound. My friends buy it in 25 lb. containers and then pure it out into our one pound metal cans. But I do know that Goex can be bought for a lot chepaer then $22 a lb.

Don't know where you're located in Montana 50Cal, but if you're anywhere near Miles City you can buy it a lot cheaper directly from the GOEX distributor there.

Western Powders, Inc. (black powder only)
P. O. Box 158
Top of Yellowstone Hill
Miles City, MT 59301
800-497-1007, 406-232-0422
Fax: 406-232-0430

The closest distributor to me is about 150 miles away. But he will bring my powder order and meet me closer to my home when he travels in my direction.

I buy from a distributor as well...I'm in NC and live about 50 miles from a distributor near Winston-Salem...I just pick up a few pounds when I'm in the area...I believe Goex is going for about $14.50 a pound now...

Western Powders is about three hours away. I know that I can get it from them but when I figure my gas it equals the cost of ordering it online. Back when gas was under 2 dollars it would be cheaper. Thats how I got my BH209 so cheep. But now I'm pay 3.50 a gallon. Its not worth traveling to Miles City. Well I kept looking around and every one else wants me to order 25 pounds or more to get the Goex powder under 15 dollars a pound. So I guess I might try Powder Inc. and see how it goes.
