Default New gun, new powder?

I'm getting ready to go to Cabelas to get a few accessories for the new Pro Hunter. I was thinking about trying a new powder as all I've ever shot is Pyrodex. Is it worth trying BH209 or for the money would I be better off to just go with Triple 7? BH209 sounds great, but I'm not sold that it's really worth $10 more for 6 oz. less.

I'd stick with Pyrodex or real blackpowder...

Ain't nothing wrong with Pyrodex SuperKirby. But you ought to at least give some Triple Seven a try just to see if you like it better. As you know from many of the posts here, a lot of guys are sold on Blackhorn. I'm not one of them, but sure wouldn't discourage you from trying it. You might like it better than a red headed woman in tight short shorts. Experimenting is fun.

I guess I hadn't considered a red headed woman in tight shorts or otherwise. Seems like it would cost a lot more and be even more problems than Blackhorn.

SuperKirby

I am one of the forunate ones tht T7 really does work for and I really do not have a problem with 'crud ring'. I do not mind running a patch at the range and I can normally shoot 3 to 5 shots in the field with out patching if necessary.

BH is a very good powder and fact it is an excellent powder, but because of the amount of powder I go through in a year I just can not afford to shoot it. If money were not an issue I might make the switch myself, but even then I am not sure.

Just a thought in passing if you have been shooting Pyro all this time you might really like T7. Much cleaner powder, not nearly as corrosive and really easy clean up with just plain Windex patches for a quick cleanup.

Are not choices fun???!!!

Of all the powders I shoot or have shot... I like Goex or Pyrodex RS. Blackhorn 209 is just impossible to find in my area. Triple Seven and me have a love hate relationship. Some rifles it shoots great, and others it stinks. Pyrodex just is a very consistent powder and seems to work in most anything, like Goex. Pyrodex is cheaper, and almost able to be found anywhere in the lower 48.

The powders that have been mentioned are all excellent powders if they suit your needs. I personally stick with Pyrodex and Blackhorn I had crudring so bad when I shot 777 that it took me so long to clean the gun between shots that my shooting was cut down to about 1/3 of normal.
There are some things you just can not tell about ahead of time give both a good try after a couple cans of each you will know what you want to shoot.

Blackhorn209 without a doubt. I love the stuff so much i am converting all my SIDELOCKS to use 209 primers so i can shoot the stuff in them as well.

In all my TC muzzleloaders Blackhorn 209 has been 100% reliable. Just spin a 1/8 bit in fire channel after each range session to remove primer carbon.

IMO it is worth the 10 extra dollars. Not having to swab the barrel after every shot saves on patches used.

My vote is for the Blackhorn especially since your shooting a Pro Hunter. My Pro Hunter absolutely loves that stuff. If it wasn't for Blackhorn I would not have gotten back into MLing again as the shoot/swab-shoot/swab-shoot/swab was not for me and I despised cleaning a muzzleloader until Blackhorn came around. But this is just my unprofessional opinion and may not match what you want or willing to put up with. I buy it at Pass Pro Shops and it costs $30 which is the same as 777 or Pyrodex but it is a 10oz jug instead of 16oz like the 777 or Pryodex
