Default planning minor changes to my flinter

I know I have not shot it yet. but I am planning on some changes to my flinter.

1: new sights, I don't like the ones that are on it. thinking an beaded or even fiber optic front. and an rear like the ones I have on my two hawken.

2: vent liner (touch hole). that is because it is a slotted one, I want to go to an hex or other type. simply, I hate flat head screw drivers

it is going to be a few months before I do this. I got put on an VERY tight budget. $150 for two months, down to about $28 and have to get round balls to test out an 44cal 6 shooter a friend is letting me borrow.

Good plan Corey. A RMC vent liner is the best investment you can make on a flintlock.

Leave the vent liner alone, you don't need to remove it...The slot is there for installation...

What type front sight is on it currently??? Can you post a pic???

I know there are two schools of thoughts on that nchawkeye. Some don't believe in removing the vent liner for cleaning, some do.

I'm one of those who remove the vent liner to flush the barrel after a shoot. It may not be necessary, but I can't help it - it makes me feel good. It sure gives you a good flow when you pump the bore in a container of water. I also remove the bolster clean out screw when I clean my caplocks.

I also remove the vent liner when I clean the rifle. And I always use the RMC liners. In fact I order them as soon as the rifle comes in.

the site is on right, looks like an German silver that was filed down almost to the base. I have the same type on two other muzzleloaders.

I've got two custom flintlocks, one that I bought in 1979 and one that I built in 1988...I've never taken the liners out of either...When I clean, I insert a tooth pick and pour a few ounces of water or rubbing alcohol in and then pour out...When I run a patch down it flushes out the liner...I then dry and lube...

On the sight, sounds like they filed it down too low...With that type sight it's best to file it 45 degrees in the back and either polish or put a dab of white paint on...This way it catches the light from the sky...
