Default Barrels are in

Got 6 of the Bergara barrels into for the TC Encores and so ive cleaned up 2 of them, One stainless and the other blued, JB'd them, flushed them out clean and then followed up with Montana Xtreme bore conditioner in both the SS and blued barrel. I'll do the testing on those 2 first for a couple weeks outside in the shop.

Just cleaned up another blued barrel but that one will be saved Dyna Tek bore coat.

Both blued barrels had a good deal of rust already in the chambers. However, the bores are Pristine.

You realize you can not effectively compare a stainless to blued barrel for a rust or corrosion comparison. Two completly different metals. Granted they both will corrode but at completely different rates.

yeah i know, i just want to test in each of them. SS will still rust up during a day hunt if it gets wet or if the air is heavy with moisture.

I do not know who's stainless you are talking about, but believe me I have been a week long hunts in rain and snow no signs of rust. I did freeze an action once and could not get it open until it thawed.

I tried to find the testing thread I did on a Remington 700 ML, it sat on the back porch day and night loaded for 5 or 6 days - through sleet and snow... It certainly never even came close to rusting.

our Rem700 to this day still gets rusty in "humid" colorado air. It tends to do a lot of flecking. Even my brother in law got tired of it and went with one of the coated barrels instead.

Nothing seriously mind you but rust non the less.

Here is day 6

This was the last day of the test - I went out and shot the load of T7 in the afternoon.

happens here a lot. Especially on the underside of the barrels where you arent able to dry off. Thats where we mainly get our rusting and a little near the muzzles.

Wow, i find that really strange, since SW Colorado is considered a dry climate. a lot of people i knew when i lived there in the 80's had moved there for that reason.the climate was great for people with respiratory problems.i myself got nose bleeds from the dry climate the first year i lived there.. CVA barrels your testing? Ray

yeah the bergara tc encore barrels. They are scrap barrels cva had left and gave them to me for this test.

Shame too, bores are perfect inside.

Our weather in southern colorado is crazy. We'll get into the 80s is december and the next 2 days down the road, 2 feet of snow, the next day, 50* weather. Then put in out wind factor. I swear during muzzle loading season, i call this place the windy hell hole.
