I forget when i shot these but i finally went to empty out my testing bullet and found these 2 in the damp news paper LOL.
100gr Blackhorn209 out of my Optima @ 100 yards.
260gr originally, they now weigh 228 grains. These were cast from either range lead or Wheel weight lead. It just goes to show you, paper is TOUGH on even hard cast bullets!
thats awesome though. The wet news paper obviously is tougher on bullets than actual game. I showed them to my brother and he was like, oh wow, thats some soft lead. I was like, thats wheel weight lead!
I will argue that since i have a hardness tester. Clip on WW is in the 12 BHN range. Pure is 5 BHN. Now I do believe that some of the clip on WW from the 1960's and 1970's were almost pure. Now days most WW's are zinc and Steel.
Corey, A bullet that hard will work but they are going to poke holes. There will be full penetration I am sure. Shoulders on a deer should not be much of a problem. If the bullet is in the lungs and heart you will be fine. I don't like ML bullets this hard but I don't use sabots. With a sabot I am sure they would do fine for deer and Antelope. Ron
Which one do you have? Your wheel weights must be a mix of clip on and stick on. Clip on WW's are harder than 8 to 10. I am finding that most are worthless because of the zinc. You get a bucket of WW and about 1/2 are lead. I have been using ww for sinkers and using Rotometal lead for my bullets. Ron
