i picked this up at wally world, I see a few flaws in it and have not had it out to the range yet.
first one, I think it the over all length should be a little more adjustable.
I don't like the adjusting arm for the rear rest. it hangs down below the feet unless you have the rear leg all the way up or the rear rest half way up. the butt locking knobs stick out to much if you don't use them.
another problem with the rear rest. the arms it my neck when I go to look down the sites.
what I may do to fix atleast the rear rest. cut about 1/4in to up to 2in off the height adjustment arm and cut about 1in to 3in off the stock clamping arms.
another idea is to do away with that rear rest set up and go with an bag set up. just an block of wood with an rod the sized the rear rest and just an place on of my bags.

I had no idea Wally World carried that style rests now. How much are they? You will have to let us know how it does when you take it shooting.
BTW how has that Tasco scope been for you? The reason I ask is I have one and was surprised for the money. Everyone online talks about about how bad Tasco is, but the glass in that is really good for $30, and so far it's held up great. The guys online have me worried about the quality of it, but so far it's never given me any reason to doubt it. I'm always curious to hear others impressions that have actually used them.
Corey, those type of rests are great for working on guns and cleaning them. But they're a poor choice for a shooting rest. Rabbit ear bags are a lot more comfortable and versatile.

I have had that tasco for 3yrs, it started out on an '06, had the more expensive tasco that i fell apart on that gun shown. I put it on that gun. i have shot loads from 50grs to 120grs of pyrodex rs from a 490 prb to an 405gr bullets. it has held up great for me. in fact, when I got to scope the socklock I have on layaway, I am going to get the same scope.
I normally shoot off bags, looking something that will not be as bad on my back. I will have two gun projects running at the same time. so it will main uses is that, and bore sighting.
still may do the rear rest mod on it with the bags it would be easier then cutting all that metal. my just using an dowel rod cut to the length and an project board to hold an bag. let me take all the recoil.
i do see the whole rest moving back on recoil with that strap on there.

i use my led sled all the time and love it. well worth the ammo, time and money saved from any errors i cause. i figure once i know what the gun and ammo combo can do then i can play around with standing, kneeling, or prone shooting positions. the most important thing to have is a good table. if your the type that likes to overly lean foward into a gun its gunna feel uncomfortable. i learned from shooting my slug gun and 338 win mag. you need to set the rear of the rest up on your shoulder on a good shooting table to be 90 degrees. this is kinda awkward at first but really cuts down the recoil.this makes your body take more of the recoil more than having your shoulder foward.i dont use any weight on my sled. i need to feel some recoil and i have never trashed a scope that way.shooting off a rest like that you have to change how you shoot but after a few sessions i like it now.

That's been my experience with that scope too. I've had mine a little over 3 years too, and it's worked great. Mine has always been on a muzzle loader. You just hear so much bad about the cheap scopes online, it makes me wonder, but personally the only scope I've had that I've had to get fixed was a Leupold, and 3 out of the 5 I've owned have had to go in for repair. I've just not found cheap scopes to be nearly as bad as they say online, but it always makes me wonder about how long it's going to hold up.
I've got a a few buddies that use those scopes too, and for the most part they seem to have good luck too. 2 of them did have bad luck with the 3-9x50's though. One of them put one on his new Omega Z5 two years back. He tried to get it sighted in and it was shooting all over the place, and he thought he got it close, took it hunting and missed a deer. He took it off and replaced it with a Bushnell. This time, he got it sighted in, but I was there when they were shooting it and it still wasn't shoot good at all. When he got it halfway close he left it, and has been hunting with it since. It made me wonder if it wasn't more his gun, but I don't know.
His brother also bought an Omega Z5 and put this same scope on it. He sighted it in fine, and hunted with it. He ended up missing a deer, then the next one he shot, he hit, then the next one he missed again. He normally doesn't miss anything he shoots at. I've seen how good of a shot he is, and I wish I was that good. He said it could have been him but he suspected the scope. So he swapped it out, and didn't miss another deer for the rest of the year.
So I'm not sure if they really failed for either of them, or if it was just their guns/their shooting. They are the only bad experiences I've ever heard with this scope, so it always makes me wonder what experiences others with this scope have had.
I clearly see better glass in some more expensive scopes(not all), but some, and often times they track better, but other than that I've not seen a big advantage to expensive scopes, and the glass is usually only slightly better. That's why I'm always curious to find out more about the cheaper optics and how they are holding up for people on average.
Corey, Take it back. I have a MTM rifle rest that I will give you just for whatever the shipping would be if you want it. I prefer to use just sand bags.

I'm not as good as I'm gonna get - but I'm better than I used to be. "Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil - it has no point."
I think I'm going to try sandbags this year also. In the past I've always used a rolled up jacket or sweatshirt. This spring to help with flooding concerns from all the snow this winter the county is selling unfilled sandbags for $.29/ea. I figure a few of those would be a lot cheaper rest than anything else and better than what I have been using.
