Wolf's in Colorado

Well after reading about the Wolfs up in the north and about how Colorado wanted to release them in Estes Park to control the elk herds, i got out today to picture a Wolf around our area thats been causing hell.

This wolf isn't the biggest out there but with its aggression of a 300gr Powerbelt Aerolite and a 100gr "71gr weight" charge of Blackhorn209, It certainly is one tough Wolf out in the woods.

And to my surprise, the 250gr Aerolites shot extremely good as well! 100gr BH209 as well.


And for the others, The 300gr Aerolite, 1 3/8"

250gr Aerolite, 7/8"


All the targets were shot from 100 yards with 10-20MPH wind. I think on a calm day, you'll find me laying out cold on the ground due to passing out from shock

I dont have much range time with this rifle but after today, shes getting used more often! This little sucker turned out to be a good deal and a good solid shooter.

I even shot the 270gr Platinums today with excellent success.

And the "do gooders" think it's wonderful if Gray Wolves keep the herd in balance, but are horrified by the thought of a CVA Wolf doing the same job (to the betterment of man and the economy, no less). If you were an elk, would you rather fall to a pack of wolves or a well placed shot?

Hey i forgot, but when i was shooting that short barreled wolf, i noticed a lot less burnt powder on the snow in front of me. With my Optima, theres a good layer of BH209 on the snow in front of me. Another deal i noticed is how fast the Wolf cools down, even in 60* weather in full sun. By the time i looked through the scope, took note of the shot and then stood up and reloaded, that sucker was already cool to the touch. Maybe 2 minutes tops.

Nice. I have a "06" Wolf with a Nikon Pro Staff scope. I'm headed to town tomorrow to buy one of the new ones with the new breech plug. What is your scope mount and rings set up? Looks like one of the one piece designs.

yep its the durasight dead on mount. Bushnell 3-9x40 from walmart.

MountainDevil54, where do you get your DirtyBird targets? I like that design but have never seen them around here locally. Good shooting by the way.
