Default All this Renegade talk...

Sorta promted me to have a need to shoot one of my Renegades. Rondie shoots start next month in my area and i have this one Renegade that i hardly ever shoot.

I had left this Renegade on consignment all hunting season at the local sporting goods store hoping to sell it for Idaho's ML season. It never sold so i went down last week and re-claimed it, decided I might make it into a PRB back up gun for Rondy events.

This rifle was still equipped with the factory sights front and rear and I had an extra TC Tang Peep Sight so I thought I would put that on to help me possibly shoot it better. I put the sight on with just one screw through the rear mounting hole. Lined the sight base in the middle of the tang visually and tighten rear screw. I really feel it is mounted to far back on the tang but I am sure that it is the way TC would have done it. Cayugad has a picture of a gunsmith intalled sight with it located in between the tang screws. I actually think you would have better verticle range with the sight adjustment that way. Anyway it is installed as noted and bore sighted. Decided to go with it this was just to see if the barrel would shoot.

The barrel is an older Douglas built barrel for TC (it has the spade engraved in the barrel by the underlug). These barrels were noted for their accuracy but I really do not even remember shooting this one. It was an ebay barrel and in fact so was the stock. The barrel exterior and the stock are both less than pristine, but it is really not the exterior looks that matter. The bore looks and feels absolutely great.

Well at the farm the gun proved to be a shooter - so now I will have to finish the installation of the sight and switch out the front steel blade with a fiiber optic sight blade. Then I will go back to the farm and sight it in again...

Question for those of you that shoot Rondie events..... At what range would you shoot a gun in to be zeroed? I am leaning at 75 yards? But actually do not no what might be the best...

Here is todays progress... 'Point of Aim' was a 6:00 hold on the full circled orange ball. I never adjusted the sights as i knew I had to finish installation and change the fron sight. I really just wanted to know if this barrel would shoot PRB's...

Then for fun after shooting this target I put out a bunch of clay pigeons at 50 yards and started picking them off. it was a bit more difficult than usual because I never did zero the peep sight just used the bore sight setting.

Should have said.... Not bad for a VERY COLD old man...

Really never had to worry about the barrel heating - but i was having problems keeping the patches from freezing...

You need to use alcohol patches in the cold winter.

Moosemilk has a good amount of alcohol in it, so my patches don't freeze. Good shooting.

Yeah, I would say that barrel can shoot (not to mention the guy pulling the trigger). Don't you just love those peeps?

Grouse45 cayugad

I just can not abuse Alcohol in that manner... buy I get the ideal...

Fortunately I will not be shooting Rondy events when it is freezing - I hope!

First one is March 6th - I need to find out more information about it, like where it is for sure and when the shooting events start.... I do not do the Hawk and Knife throw or do I shoot pistols - that would really be a show.... I just like shooting the long guns...

Peeps are the only way I can work with open iron sights - my eyes are so screwed up I can not get the rear sight to focus all the time.

For an Ebay barrel the bore matched the guys description - but the out side of the barrel has a fun warts... the blueing is still intact but I looks like someone dropped 5 itty bitty drops of acid on the barrel. But I was really happy to get it for the price and have it be a Douglas barrel.

The set trigger surely helps the accuracy off a bench.... It is like this trigger is from one of those movies where you look at the target think pull and the gun goes off...

Mike: I set up my t/c rear peep with 2 new drilled holes : I have it about 3/4" behind the front tang screw the way you have it set up you need to dig into the stock
T/C stocks do not have enough drop in the comb man a big difference when you mount it the way I said .
